When is it the best to start the orthodontic treatment?
Although an orthodontist can make our smile more beautiful at any age, there is an ideal period for this with everyone. This is the time when the best results can be achieved within the shortest period of time and with the least expenditure. The American Association of the Orthodontists estimate this time at the age of 7, when it is worth having an orthodontic check-up and start the orthodontic treatment.
What is the advantage of the early treatment?
Orthodontics is not just about teeth alignment and smile aesthetics, but about having a good bite, too. For a good bite, good teeth and jaw are necessary. The position of the teeth and that of the jaw determines the smile, the facial aesthetics, the mastication and the cleaning of the teeth. It is important that at this age the development of the jaws can be controlled, therefore further complications can be avoided, and the already existing problem can be improved to a great extent. By this the self-esteem of children can be ameliorated.

Why is it recommended from the age of 7?
This is the age when front grinders shaping the bite at the back have already come out. Usually by this time time the four front teeth are about to come out, therefore the orthodontist can assess the shape of the bite in the front and in the back alike. The earlier we recognize the problem, the more chance we will have to make that smile wonderful.

When the fix orthodontic appliance is removed, the retentive period of the treatment starts. This period usually lasts for 1.5-2 years. This period should be taken as seriously as that of the fix orthodontic time to ensure its lasting result.
The expended time and energy should not be wasted!
Retainers are removable appliances and have many types. They adjust to the nicely aligned teeth and do not let your them shift. They need to be placed on clean teeth and should be cleaned with toothpaste, a toothbrush and then need to be soaked in lukewarm water.
These appliances should be worn as much time as possible from the 24 hours a day, then, after one year, if the situation allows, you can change to wear them night-time only.
Orthognathic surgery is the surgery to correct conditions of the upper and lower jaws.
The purpose of orthognathic surgery is to correct functional and aesthetic problems that are due to underlying skeletal deformities and that cannot be solved by an orthodontic treatment only. Of course this is a more serious intervention, therefore if the most modern orthodontic techniques allow, we try to avoid this step. If we spot the misaligned development of the jaws in childhood, then at that age we can treat the problem by more simple orthodontic treatments and therefore such operations can be avoided later.
